Peace By Pieces week 36

REFLECTION
"Let him turn away from evil and do good; let him seek peace and pursue it." (1 Peter 3:11, ESV).

A DEEPER LOOKRead

This week’s verses remind us how we can find true peace.

IMAGINE THIS

If we ever wonder what we hold dear to our hearts, what we stand for, and what is important to us above everything else…all we have to do is look where Satan is attacking us.

His job is to test us, then engage us in a spiritual battle. He’s good at his job…and you can bet he wants us to fail. The good news is this: Satan is fighting us in a battle that Jesus has already won!

For the past two Sunday’s, John and I have attended the little country church near our home. These folks do not know us nor our family situation. So when the message “fits” our circumstance, when the messages have nuggets of Godly insight – we pay attention. (I literally take notes!) Then, as a couple struggling in a war against our family, we ask God for wisdom. And then Satan…well, he expands the test – heats up the battle. And once again, we find our peace stolen. It doesn’t happen all at once, he takes it piece by piece.

Frankly, we’re tired of this battle and ready to be done with this mess. Our desire is to regain peace by pieces. Our plan is to be still and remember the battle is not ours, because Jesus already took care of that….but then life happens and another skirmish begins. So we look for nuggets of truth along the way to help us regain our footing.

These nuggets can come from unexpected sources. Like from a kids book – ya just gotta know where to look I suppose…Our grandson, Maddox, has a walking Star Wars book. In one icon, Yoda says “Do or do not, there is no try.” I’d say Yoda nailed it on this one. We find ourselves trying to be peaceful instead of just being peace filled.

One event at a time, life will try to steal our peace. Sadly, we either find ourselves fighting to keep it, taking the easy path: give in or give up.

Over the past several months, I’ve come to realize that maintaining peace is actually a spiritual battle. Like any spiritual battle, there is only one way to win. We’ll have to turn life back over to God – piece by piece – one thing at a time – one day at a time – just do, not try. But before we jump in – we’ll need to prayerfully seek God's wisdom and discernment on how to proceed. Then, be steadfast in our faith as He restores our peace by pieces
.

Have a blessed week, y'all - In Christ with love and compassion
