Please breathe on me...again.

I am a firm believer in self-reliance, self-control, and self-development. I honestly believe that each of us should develop ourselves into the best version of "us" that we can be.  To me, it just makes since. But...according to the Bible, it is only through Christ that I can become the person I   want  to be. And that scares me. Not that God can't mold me and form me to look more like His Son but that somehow, the picture I have of myself is not who I really am. I worry that the me I see and the 'real me' are two different beings. That my reasons for doing what I do is selfish or for personal gain. And this makes me wonder if I'm just going through the motions of being a Christian; that somehow I am outside of God's will doing life on my own.  I can't fully explain it but honestly, it scares me to think that I am missing something.  That the works I am doing are being done under my own strength and knowledge, for my own satisfaction. And not by Hi...

In God's Hands?

"Deuteronomy 30:15 & 19"    I used to say (and believe) this phrase. It served as a logical excuse for when things didn't go as I had planned. But lately, I honestly think this phrase is just not right.  Deuteronomy 30:15  (NLT) reads:  "Now listen! Today I am giving you a choice between life and death, between prosperity and disaster." Deuteronomy 30:19  (NLT) reads: "Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live!" In these verses, God is telling the Israelites that He is giving them options and that their choices will be witnessed and verified in heaven and on earth.  So if "Its all in God's hands..."  why did He offer them options? Why did He tell them to choose?   Here are my thoughts on this well intended ...

Will you say "Oh, don't worry, it's Jesus"

Have you ever wondered when, or even if, Jesus is coming back? I was watching one of my new favorite preachers and at the end of his sermon, a line from the W&P song caught my attention: "Our hands are lifted and our voices raised to the One who is seated forever to reign." I felt a question rise up within my spirit:  " Is this the generation that will finally remember what it means to have a relationship with Jesus ?" Are we the generation, those of us living right now, who were raised up for such a time as this, the generation that will put aside religion and take up the cross of love, compassion, discipline, and power to be the generation that can lay aside the weight of religion and embrace what Jesus died for? I certainly don't have all the answers, shucks some days I wonder if I have any of the answers, but it seems to me that so many "Christians" are still trying to let the Old Covenant define their right of passage into heaven when ...

I call Him Savior...He calls me friend.

" I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master's business.  Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you."  John 15:15 I don't think I encouraged my kids to call me by any particular title. As they grew, mommy became mom or momma; I was dubbed Mammy by our oldest grandson, and my nieces and nephews call me Aunt Dee. On a good day, I'll answer to any of the above! But this post isn't about me. It is about Them. God. Jesus. The Holy Spirit. God the Creator, I Am; Jesus: the name above all names, the only name by which we can be saved into eternal life, Savior, Redeemer, Counselor, Advocate, Price of Peace, Lamb of God, El Shaddai; The Holy Spirit: Holy Ghost, Comforter, Guide. These same names bring peace to believers yet upset others to the point of bitterness, anger, hate...and I have to ask why? Is the peace that sweeps over Christians the result of our persona...

Ouch! What'd Ya Do That For?

"As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts " Isaiah 55:9 "A bruised reed He will not break, And smoking flax He will not quench, Till He sends forth justice to victory; And in His name Gentiles will trust"  Matthew 12: 20-21 Have you ever experienced a *God-Whack*?  A time when you questioned something or someone only to have God speak directly to you in chastisement?   If you have not experienced this first hand, let me tell y'all what happened to me because of an innate soul feature:    A little history:  Along with this whole life coaching/counseling profession, having studied the human psych, comes a deeper insight into what makes people tick; but even before the schooling, God designed me with an uncanny ability to "see people"; which apparently makes folks uncomfortable.  Several family members have told me (more than once) that i...
