Touching Jesus week 41

“Touching Jesus” REFLECTION “And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me." (Luke 9:23, KJV) IMAGINE THIS A Friday-spur-of-the-moment picnic with my husband was exactly what I needed. I figured I’d write while he fished. But...it was hot. The insects were plentiful and loud. My trusty car blanket, now covered in dust and twigs, was hardly a cushion against the hard October ground. Maybe this wasn’t such a good idea after all, a nd my writer’s notebook lay untouched. Suddenly, my husband’s voice carried to me from across the lake. I looked up and took in the scene before me. He was grinning like a little boy, holding up a big bass as h is ‘y ak rocked on the water. I laughed as t wo swans squawked at guys trolling past their ‘ugly ducking’. I noticed a flock of mallards flying high overhead. I even saw a b utterfly dipping dangerously close to the water’s surface as t he...

Winding Down Week 41 "Touching Jesus"

Our devotional readings from this week have shown us seven ways in which we can touch Jesus. We touch Jesus when we are patient, repentant, and obedient. When our faith is stronger than doubt and fear and we approach Him with a tender, humble heart. We touch Jesus when we display dependence upon His strength and wisdom while being submissive to His will. I pray you have enjoyed this week's Bible study on Touching Jesus as much as I have. Unless you see it in person, there is no way to describe the peaceful beauty of WV's Corridor H this time of year. Nor can we adequately explain God's love and grace to someone else. Each of us has to accept Him for ourselves. Experience Him for ourselves. But...we can draw folks to Him when they see Christ alive in us. Going to church is great and all, but it's what we do with what we learn that defines us as a Christian. Good days, not so good days, rotten days...no matter the day...we have to choose, on purpose, to let Him shine through. So others can see hope, joy, peace...Jesus...when they look beyond their mirror's reflection. + + + This week has been interesting for me. I did the usual plus a little more. This week's Bible study has changed me - inside.  Even when a troubling phone call came in - when work was more hectic than normal - I still felt Him near. Through it all, I felt God's peace. Here's the funny thing: on the outside, I a...

Photo Credit D. Kelly @ Hardy Co., WV REFLECTION "Continue to trust in God and do what you know is right. Some people have not done this, and their faith is now in ruins" (1 Timothy 1:19, ERV). IMAGINE THIS West Virginia’s country roads make driving challenging. We get all the elements: rain, snow, ice, fog, heat, hail, sleet; we get traffic jams caused by tractors, coal or poultry trucks; and we have to be on the lookout for our wildlife. The most challenging, of course, is weather related. Consider our random foggy days.  As the above picture shows, within a few feet, lines of vision range from completely clear to a blanket of thick fog.  But since these country roads lead us home, we’ve learned to navigate them with the knowledge that any particular day could quickly become an interesting drive. And so is real life... There are times when a situation is completely out of our hands. Times when we find ourselves totally dependent upon someone e...

"God already knows our deepest thoughts" Romans 8:27a (ERV). Photo Credits: D. Kelly, Grant Co., WV                  REFLECTION “Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart” (2 Timothy 2:22). Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday Judges 16:19-20 Matthew 26:41 2 Timothy 2:22 Exodus 2:12 Genesis 39:12 Romans 8:26 1 Corinthians 10:13 IMAGINE THIS It came to mind. That thing I don’t like giving in to. Yet, time and time again…it has won. Somehow overpowering my good senses Alluring me to give in. And sometimes…I do even though I have learned it to be a poor sport. Because after I give in – after it wins – My ‘Christian’ label is mocked. It mocks my weakness – condemning me – and I feel lost...
