Born Again

Have you ever wondered - like Nicodemus did - how a man/woman can be born again? When Nicodemus asked Jesus how something like this is possible, Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit," (John 3:4-5). 

To be born of water can refer to a few different things such as our physical birth, being baptized in water, or even by the washing away of sin. To be born of the Spirit refers to the indwelling of The Holy Spirit, "Without which no one will see God."  

So, the first gift of The Holy Spirit is when He comes to live inside us, evicting the old man, and unpacking a suitcase full of heirloom seeds! Seeds that will produce only good fruit (Galatians 5)!

Table of Grace Church Ministry Blog from Beyond the Mirror week 42  “So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom” ( Psalm 90:12, ESV). REFLECTION I’d squirm and she’d give me the look. I’d yawn and she’d swat my leg. I’d giggle and she’d threaten me with my big brother. Church...again...Twice a week. Sometimes more...the point was moot - wasn’t it? But then again... I can still recall my mom’s stories of “All day meetin’s and dinner on the ground”.  According to her, the entire community would spend Sundays at church - all day Sunday - and walk home by lantern light. Her reply of “It’s just what folks did back then” didn't answer my question of why they'd want to! Apparently, those folks weren’t  in a rush to leave God’s house. They’d tarry a bit, sing from hymnals, listen to the preacher, and eat together. Kids would nap under the pews, no electronic gadgets to calm them down or occupy their wandering minds. We had lots of conversations about faith, God, church...and one of his favorite things to get on to me about was my faith. And every once in a while, he would try to trip me up. Knowing me, I'd get a deer in the headlights look , what he said would sink in, and it was on! He was respectful toward me regarding my beliefs, and I to him regarding is ill-gotten unbelief. I'd apologize to him for gossiping or losing my temper, and he'd laugh. It was all good.  And I remember thinking that I should keep my mouth shut about my faith, but I'm built to keep quiet about that. About that "F" word. I was raised to believe that this was a horrible word and I raised my children with this same belief; this is one word that simply doesn't roll off our tongues.
